About

Cantharis Alpacas is one of the longest established breeding studs in the lower North Island being located on the majestic Kapiti Coast, just 40 kms North of Wellington. Most of our 33 acres property is dedicated to the husbandry of these adorable animals with a breeding program to improve character, conformation and fiber while ensuring health and well being.

Farm Visits

Farm Visits

We are open again for our very successful alpaca farm tours. During the tour you will be able to walk with an alpaca on a lead over our newly created farm track, hand feed the alpacas and, assuming they feel like it, give them a good hug. The tour also provides fantastic photo opportunities. Note that we are open for pre-booked visits only, no walk-ins please. For more information and bookings please click here.

Our multi year investments in quality bloodlines from selected leading breeders in the Alpaca industry have paid off, with having achieved a breeding standard that we are proud of. Our alpacas are registered with the New Zealand alpaca industry. Click here for information about our breeding males.

We are open for alpaca walks!

Now that the Covid-19 situation has changed, we are open again for farm walks. However this time more attractive as we will walk with alpacas on a lead over our new farm track. The tour will show you more of our property, the awesome views and will take approximately 1.5 hours. Bookings can be made on our farm visits page.

All our alpacas fleeces have now been sold. The fleeces are being processed into alpaca yarn and other exclusive products, such as luxury jerseys, shawls, hats and duvet inners.

Rob welcomed me a good half an hour before the tour started, made me a cuppa and we were chatting away instantly. I felt so welcome from the get go, making it a really personalised tour. Not only did Rob share his vast knowledge of New Zealand and alpacas, the group of us shared our travels and experiences, giving it a great atmosphere. The day was relaxed and chilled as Rob allowed us to make it our own, feeding the alpacas ourselves, walking where they went and exploring the land. As you can imagine they were the most fluffy, picturesque, adorable creatures. “ This is my second time at Cantharis farm and I can't get enough! The walk up to see the alpacas wondering in the open land was informative and fun. Rob was friendly and knowledgeable about caring for the animals and we learned a few facts or two about them!
